Have you ever been in this situation?

Have you ever been in this situation?

You finally decide to buy some new network equipment, such as a Cisco 550X Series Stackable Managed Switch or an APC UPS, after worrying and studying and fighting bouts of hesitation!

You were overjoyed when you received your shipment of equipment! You unpack it, place it on your rack, and then plug it into an available electrical socket - but wait…

When you see you can't plug in the unit, your exhilaration becomes grief. It's because the plug on the end of the power cord does not fit into the wall outlet!

And you're left wondering what went wrong here!

Another aggravating possibility is that the device you're attempting to plug in demands more amperage or voltage than the wall outlet.

"You're joking! So, what should I do now?"

Imagine you're attempting to connect a large switch, such as a Catalyst 6513-E Switch. It is equivalent to up to eight standalone switches. A freestanding switch that is smaller in size can be plugged into a conventional NEMA 5-15 outlet. But now consider eight switches.

Add the power requirements for each switch together. They will be more than the 15 amps in a "regular" outlet. Like at home, if you try to plug a microwave into the same circuit as the refrigerator, the circuit breaker will trip.

It's similar if you try to connect a UPS (uninterruptible power supply - AKA battery backup) with high voltage devices. The UPS must provide electricity to any devices connected to it. Charging the batteries and running the onboard electrical circuits consume additional power.

Moral of The Story

Cabling is a quintessential component of IT infrastructure. You should always choose the right cabling solution partner for your business.

What is Structured Cabling?

When the average businessperson thinks about IT infrastructure, the first thing that comes to mind is traditional copper cables. But today, the Internet Protocol (IP) has become the most utilized means of linking devices. This is where structured cabling comes into play. Using structured cabling solutions, you can maintain seamless internet and IT infrastructure.

A structured cabling system employs the Main Distribution Area. In this MDA, all connections are routed. The TIA-942 Standard specifies the MDA as the central distribution point for the data center structured cabling system.

It houses the key cross-connects, switches, and routers. With the MDA, all active ports are mirrored in a passive area. This means that operational equipment is neither harmed nor disrupted.

Why Use a Structured Network Cabling System?

1. Maximum Uptime

Adding new hardware is much faster. There is less confusion because the cables are clean and arranged orderly. During movements, additions, and changes, the cable is less likely to be detached.

2. Reduced Footprint

With a structured cabling system, operators can use smaller-diameter trunk cabling. This will reduce total cable bulk and the likelihood of blocked airflow and crushed cables. A structured cabling system is, by definition, organized and planned.

3. Scalability

Data centers today are complex and diverse ecosystems. A structured cabling system allows managing and supporting hardware connections and enables network development. Because of its modular nature, a structured system provides for scalability. Essentially, the footprint is always in place. This helps in adding more patch panels to create new connections.

4. ROI (Return on Investment)

A well-regulated cabling system will outlast many hardware generations. A structured cabling system will, over time:

    • Reduce system running expenses, such as heating, cooling, and electricity
    • Reduce the time required for maintenance and setup. The cabling system's topology enables quick adjustments and updates
    • Reduce the time necessary for moves, additions, and modifications to increase system availability
    • Maintain business continuity by doing the following:

- Reducing failure points
- Probability of less errors
- Less risk of cable being accidentally disconnected

  • Built-in modularity and scalability maximize infrastructure longevity and simplicity of update

This makes it significantly less expensive than a point-to-point cabling solution.

Structured Cabling Solutions: Integrating Accessibility and Convenience Whilst Minimizing Downtime

There is an increasing demand for high-speed data connections, such as 100GE and 400GE. The data center operators must upgrade their cable infrastructure to enable higher rates. A well-planned structured cabling system may provide you with versatility, agility, and scalability. You need to manage your data center's ever-increasing demands. The cabling must function flawlessly to accommodate future hardware performance improvements. This will help avoid layer one issues and prepare you for the upcoming bandwidth requirements.

CABLExpress® by CXtec offers high-quality and advanced structured cabling solutions. They help you establish a scalable and future-ready technology infrastructure. Our data center architecture and cabling solutions provide performance, dependability, and cost savings. Also, we make everything look aesthetically pleasing.

Our Structured Cabling Solutions

Our tailored structured cabling services and solutions can create future-ready network infrastructure.

1. SKINNY-TRUNK® Solution

Solid cabling infrastructure is required to deliver high-end applications. This helps you to propel your business beyond. So, how can you optimize performance while designing a flexible, scalable system?

The CABLExpress® Skinny-Trunk® Solution is a cutting-edge, high-density fibre optic cable system that helps maximize business value. This is done by preparing your layer one infrastructure for future enhancements.

2. MULTI-PATH™ System

A structured cabling system is a one-stop solution for all your cabling migration requirements. It reduces the number of transition components required and avoids polarity concerns. This is done by generating an effective migration strategy. This strategy will be great for handling high transmission speeds of 40GE and beyond.

3. PORT REPLICATION™

Port replication is "mirroring" active fibre optic hardware ports in a passive component. This component is called a fibre patch panel. The values on the hardware directly correlate to the numbers on the patch panel. This creates a clear relationship between active hardware ports and a passive structured cabling environment. As a result, it simplifies the cabling process.

Port replication reduces the possibility of an outage. There is no one-to-one correspondence between hardware and patch panel ports. So, calculations must be performed on the fly during any data center moves, adds, and changes (MACs). These estimates increase the possibility of human mistakes. Essentially, this is exacerbated by the fact that many MACs are performed under pressure due to time restrictions or other pressing circumstances. A one-to-one port replication scenario speeds up and simplifies installation.

4. HIGH-SPEED Migrations

Advanced data centers that go to 400GE and higher speeds need more single-mode fibre-structured cabling systems. This increases the importance of simplicity in a data center manager's migration between parallel and duplex connections. Our innovative multi-path system will considerably help them gain clarity.

The multi-path system enables high-speed migrations. They also incorporate various advantages of TIA Methods A, B, and C.

To better serve parallel optic connections, the system employs flipped trunks. Most big data center cabling providers recommend flipped polarity backbone or horizontal trunking. Multi-path also uses the same duplex & parallel jumpers on both ends of the link and the same cassette modules.
