Cisco has created v2 switches designed to consume less power than their predecessors. They have done this for the Catalyst 3650 and 3750 family of switches.
Our Nortel customers are pretty awesome - they're loyal, informed and maintain a high level of product intelligence. Their Nortel infrastructure is like a badge of honor. So what happens to those customers when there's a market disruption and the future of Nortel is unknown?
We’ve been watching the news, and it’s hard not to admit that times are still tough out there. There are a few bright spots, and we remain optimistic that the economy will start rebounding really soon. But we all have to admit that finding creative new ways to optimize our business spending and get the best return on investment we can are still very high priorities.
Networks up...costs down.
That is our mantra here at CXtec. Everything we do is focused on helping our customers get this accomplished.
One very important aspect of achieving maximum uptime and performance while keeping long term costs down is giving the proper attention to cables. That's right. Respect layer one.
Do you know what this is? Calling it a "legacy" piece of equipment is putting it nicely - this hard drive, closer to the size of a record player than the hard drives you see today, is a bit of a dinosaur. We had it on display in our atrium for the past couple days for a fun little internal contest - and also a reminder of our roots.
Everyone at CXtec wishes you a happy and prosperous New Year!
Once all the champagne and party fun wore off, we took a moment to reflect on our 2011, and look forward to 2012.
One of our goals is to use our website and this blog to share a lot of helpful information with our customers and other IT professionals. One way accomplish this is through webinars, and we did several webinars in 2011 covering a variety of networking and cabling topics.
Mark your calendars now: 2012 NY Tech Summit is June 21-22 at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY.
Christmas was yesterday and it was just awesome. We talked a few weeks ago about some stuff on our wish list. Well, maybe we were lucky enough to get some of those things and maybe we weren’t. That part’s not important. What is important is that we had a good time with friends, family and loved ones. We surely did and we hope you did as well.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year from every here at CXtec! Our team at LIFECYCLExpress got into the holiday spirit with their own Christmas Tree decorated with recycled electronics.

We’ve found that sometimes people will overlook how important a refurbishing process is for phones. So much time and energy is spent talking about switches and routers that phones tend to get overlooked. For some reason (maybe because we all have phones in our pockets and take them for granted), phones aren’t given credit for being the sophisticated pieces of technology that they truly are.
Technology Trend Throwback: In 1983, young David Lightman was rockin' the sweet IMSAI 8080 computer. Other notable tech trends of 1983? The WOPR, of course.
You may only know us for used voice and networking gear or cables. But did you know we're a Juniper Elite partner, too?
Here's why you should care:
It’s the holiday season and all the good boys and girls are compiling their wish lists! Here at CXtec we’re no different. Some of us are still lamenting those lost G.I. Joe action figures or Strawberry Shortcake dolls we didn’t get when we were kids. So we’re hoping this year will be different.
What are the Top 5 items on our letter to Santa? Good stuff!
We were treated to carolers today courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York - adorable! If you aren't already, this will certainly put you in the holiday spirit!
Since the ratification of IEEE 802.3ba, the transition to 40/100 gigabit Ethernet speeds is no longer a question of if, but when. We're going to go over the five things you need to know in order to prepare for 40/100G speeds in your data center.
One of the trends we’ve kept an eye on throughout this year has been the concept of people skills for IT professionals. It seems to be gaining quite a bit of buzz in the blogosphere, and is becoming a pretty major hot topic around hiring processes, so we figured it was time to comment on it.
Take a look at trade magazine in the world of information technology. There’s talk about cutting edge trends and the latest hardware. You see a lot of speculation on future trends. That’s all great. People have to be forward looking. Everyone wants to think of where their network is, where they want it to go and how to get there.
CXtec is a company full of tech geeks - and, consequently, Apple product lovers. Our developers latched on to the iPod almost immediately (it still proves the most effective way to drown out extraneous noise and focus on coding). And there was definitely some friendly competition over who could secure the first iPhone when it came out. And now, the iPad is as commonplace as paper notebooks during meetings.
