3 Lessons for Success in Life and IT

Celebrating 20 Years of Technology @ Your Pace

It seems that the technology industry moves at a faster pace than nearly any other. This is apparent by the rate of new technologies to market (wait, there’s a newer iPhone already?) in addition to our rate of adoption of these technologies. For perspective, here’s a look at some of the top technology trends in 1995 vs. 2015.

Yes, that’s right… you were watching Star Wars on VHS until at least 1995 (but at least you could still see the original theatrical version). Seems like yesterday, doesn’t it? Read more fun facts here.

This year, CXtec is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its equal2new® brand of certified pre-owned networking and voice hardware. As we look back on these two glorious decades, we’ve learned many lessons.

  1. Change is the Only Constant in Life

    Greek philosopher Heraclitus is quoted as saying, "Change is the only constant in life" (at least according to the Interweb). In life and business, it’s important to have the ability to adapt to changes or risk being left behind. As IT professionals, we need to be constantly learning what is happening in the industry so we can make the best decisions for our businesses. In some cases, this may mean an upgrade. In others, a multi-phased approach might work best, while others still may need to maintain a legacy system. What’s imperative is the ability to justify these decisions based on what makes the most sense for your organization to succeed, rather than by a lack of understanding of available options. Take control of your technology by placing these choices in the hands of your IT superheroes, rather than manufacturers who don’t always know or care about your specific business needs.

    It’s also crucial for your organization’s success that your IT provider is able to evolve as the industry changes. CXtec has been in the industry since 1978 (back when a pound of bacon was just $1.20).     Though this quote attribution is debatable, like many Internet proclamations, it’s another lesson that can apply in life and in business. It comes as no surprise to anyone that there is often a cloud of doubt that goes along with the used IT hardware space – how do you know the equipment you’re getting is reliable? How can you depend on “used” equipment in your network? Trust us, we get it. Your network is the lifeline of your organization, and making sure it is up and running is a mission nearly as important as the quest for the Holy Grail (unless of course you’ve already got one).

    Here’s the takeaway: not all used IT hardware is created equal. It’s important to do your homework when selecting your equipment vendor to ensure they make a diligent effort to give you the quality products your organization needs. We’ve learned a lot over the past 20 years of equal2new and are very appreciative of everything our customers have taught us.
