VoIP Faxing

The web based telecommunications system known as Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is rapidly becoming an extremely popular method of making long distance and international calls for both business and personal reasons. VoIP providers have recognized the fact that many people communicate via fax, and have adapted their technology to be able to send and receive faxed transmissions.

The T38

Early VoIP technology was largely inefficient and did not properly translate the characters that were written or typed on the page. There has been an effort to improve this system, and one of the solutions that has been developed is an IP based fax machine known as the T38. This machine works as a regular fax, and it will work over a standard phone line as well as sending and receiving faxes via the Internet. Newer models may be plugged directly into any network and will produce pristine copies of any fax once the machine has been properly set up.The T38 continues to be modified and improved, and is expected to become a highly valuable VoIP fax option.

Fax Support

There are many VoIP providers, but not all of them offer the option to send or receive faxes. This makes it important for anyone who is interested in a VoIP to properly research their potential provider to make sure they do provide the extra services you desire, whether they be conference calling, video capabilities or faxing documents. Many of the more well known providers feature the T38 fax, or another model that is also considered to be reliable, the g.711. These two options are the industry standards that produce the most clear and legible fax reproductions.

Setting up the Fax

Once you have purchased a VoIP and have received the necessary equipment, the set up process will be quite easy. The fax machine will need to be plugged in and properly configured based on the specifications given by the service provider, and then it will be ready for operation. The entire process should only take a few minutes, and you will be able to receive or send faxes.

Although the online capabilities of fax machines has greatly improved since its inception, VoIP fax machines continue to be upgraded and made to be more dependable. New software packages that are designed to improve the faxing process will become available in the near future, and users will be able to quickly download them online in order to ensure that their equipment has the best and most current features when they become accessible to existing customers.
