VoIP Telephone Operating Companies

Phone companies that provide Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services are becoming more popular and widespread all across the world. These companies offer the service of transmitting phone calls through the World Wide Web instead of standard analog phone lines. This process works by transmitting a voice message that originates from a VoIP phone through one computer terminal to a second computer, where it can then be heard on another telephone. These phones work like any other standard telephone, and have the ability to offer extra features such as call forwarding, voice mail, caller ID and other beneficial extras.

How These Companies Work

A VoIP phone operating company broadcasts the phone calls through an IP telephony system that connects telephones with computers. Every time a caller speaks, the system will convert their words into a digital format and collect them in different packets, or segments. These segments then travel through the broadband connection to be delivered to the person on the other end of the line, and the rate of speed they attain as well as the quality of the transmission is based on how powerful the phone company's network is, and how congested the broadband becomes during periods of heavy phone usage. Another factor that affects the quality of these calls is the speed of the user's internet connection. A high speed connection will produce a better sounding call than a slower connection.

Competitive Rates

VoIP phone companies are faced with a lot of competition. As the industry grows, more and more companies are getting involved and trying to claim their own stake and client base. One positive result of this for consumers is the simple fact that competition between businesses results in better options for the public. In order to win over new customers, these phone companies offer lower rates, free or inexpensive optional services like caller ID, call forwarding or call waiting, low priced equipment and a higher level of customer service. Some of these companies offer set rates for a monthly service, which can result in free local or long distance calls and much lower phone bills for business owners or private residences.

Bundles

One benefit that many telephone companies are starting to offer is the "bundling" of several services into one inexpensive plan. These options most commonly include an internet service, VoIP phone systems and cable television. Consumers are switching to these companies at a rapid pace in order to obtain all of these services from the same provider, and to receive one reasonable monthly bill instead of three separate invoices.

While VoIP service providers are able to give their customers reasonable rates, they are still extremely profitable organizations. VoIP is now a multi billion dollar industry, and it is expected to continue to grow in the coming years as more people and business owners make the switch from analog phone lines to Internet based calling plans.
