VoIP Accessibility and PortabilityVoice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is becoming increasingly popular for its ability to keep people connected anywhere in the world by offering them a method of communicating verbally through the World Wide Web. This does, however, lead to issues of accessibility and portability since the process requires a strong internet connection to work properly. VoIP was first used in 1973, but it had very limited applications and for many years only computer users who were part of the same network were able to talk to each other. In 1997, a company called Level 3 Communications helped to drastically change that with the introduction of a product which they called a Softswitch. This is a device that enables phones to communicate with each other regardless of what network they used. The device was installed as a piece of software within a computer system, and opened up a new means of widespread communication. Since the introduction of this new system, the accessibility of VoIP has vastly improved for both corporations and individuals. More than half of the companies on the Fortune 500 list utilize the technology, and many people are discovering it is also very beneficial for personal use. This method of making phone calls has recently become far more prevalent because the service has grown to be more reliable, inexpensive and even mobile. Portable VoIP Phones The advent of a more mobile VoIP phone system has made these devices more popular and accessible than they once were. At first, users could only connect the phone system to their personal computer, so unless both parties were sitting at the terminal, people would not be able to talk to each other online. Recent upgrades in technology have led to the creation of hardware based VoIP systems which allow the phones to become portable. Depending on your needs, it is possible to obtain a system in which you can connect your VoIP phone into a standard analog telephone through an adapter unit and make calls from any traditional phone line, or to set up a wireless device that will allow you to use a VOIP anywhere you go while on the road. Users who have a Wi-Fi set up will receive the greatest amount of portability from this system. Most routers offer a very wide range, which means that people will be able to talk on a WiFi SIP phone from almost anywhere. The wireless routers are also extremely portable, so they can be packed up and taken on business trips or personal vacations where they can be quickly set up to provide access to VoIP calls. Phones that are designed to connect with a wireless router have the ability to be used anywhere that they can obtain a wireless signal. While some of the signals do require a form of authentication, there are many "hotspots" where the phones can connect instantly and be used while you are away from the home or office. Stay Connected The increased levels of accessibility and portability for VoIP phone systems has made it easier for business professionals and individuals to connect with friends and associates regardless of where they are. Many of the service providers offer international calling, so people are able to talk with individuals in other countries through this online service. These internet phone systems are easy to use and highly mobile, allowing people to stay connected with ease at all times. |
